The LED module mask is an important part of the LED module. It is usually made of small pieces inlaid around the LED lamp beads, covering the surface of the LED module and fixed by the mask screws. It is made of light-transmitting materials such as PC, PMMA or silicone. So why do LED displays need those small masks? Because although the LED module mask is small, it has a great effect and is an indispensable part of the LED display.
Its primary function is to protect the lamp beads and prevent them from being bumped. We all know that LED lamp beads are relatively fragile. It is easy to damage the lamp beads during the assembly, installation and transportation of the LED display. At this time, the LED mask plays a protective role. Especially for outdoor stadium screens, LED modules generally use softer masks with a softer texture, so that the ball will not be damaged when it hits or the athlete hits it.
The second function is to prevent dust, water, bacteria, and static electricity, and protect the module from corrosion. When a stunning LED display is lit up, people will be attracted to it unconsciously and want to feel it with their hands. The dust, moisture, bacteria and static electricity brought by people's hands are easily brought to the LED display. The LED mask acts as a barrier to isolate these harmful substances from the LED display, so as to protect the LED display from hand damage and extend the life of the LED display. Especially for outdoor LED displays, with the design of masks and sealed waterproof rubber rings, the LED display can be immersed in 3 meters underwater for 48 hours without leaking, which is suitable for outdoor advertising screens to deal with heavy rain or sandstorms.
The third function is to soften the glare of LED point light sources through micro-structure textures (such as frosted and prism patterns). For example, the display cabinet lights in shopping malls use matte masks to avoid glare caused by customers looking directly at the lamp beads.
The fourth function is to maintain the color uniformity of the LED display. Through the professional mask coating, the mask has a uniform color, which ensures that the LED display shows a uniform color.
The fifth function is to help the LED display adjust the temperature and dissipate heat. The thermal conductive silicone mask helps the LED chip dissipate heat, with a thermal resistance as low as 5℃/W, reducing the light decay rate (for every 10℃ drop in junction temperature, the life span is extended by 2 times).
